Funded by Best Starts for Kids, PERC addresses gaps in care for families in King Co. by providing culturally matched care to families and by providing specialized training for providers. For Parents For King County families currently experiencing, or at-risk of experiencing Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), we offer our unique peer support program that provides culturally-matched mental health and wellness care. Peers use their lived experience, community knowledge, and training in specialized perinatal mental health peer support to support families in King Co. This program focuses on providing care to families who otherwise would lack access to specialized perinatal mental health care due to language barriers, lack of culturally matched care, or lack of care providers serving families with Medicaid as their primary insurance. What does a Parent Resilience Specialist (PRS) do?
Meet Our PERC Team Parents: Our Warm Line is the access point to all of our services. Contact us by phone or text anytime to receive support and get connected with resources, including this program, peer support, wellness planning, support groups and more. For Providers PERC’s Training Program For our fellow perinatal providers, our PERC program offers a unique FREE training opportunity to those serving families in the childbearing period. PERC will be offering two FREE two-day intensive PMAD training opportunities for care providers (doulas, home visitors, community health workers, and peers) and two trainings for mental health providers. Our training series “Promoting Parental Resilience in the Childbearing Period,” is intentionally designed to support gaps in knowledge and understanding about PMADs in parenting programs, community & mental health programs, and other places childbearing families receive care. The PERC training program will specifically focus on providing training to BIPOC providers, providers who take Medicaid insurance, and providers who provide care in languages other than English. What Promoting Parental Resilience Training Will Do: In this training, we will discuss culturally-attuned strategies to engage parents in improving mental health.
For Care Providers:
For Mental Health Providers: Clinicians will learn strategies for how to treat Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs). Each training will have follow-up monthly consultation meetings, facilitated by a perinatal mental health specialist, to support providers in integrated new skills and to develop culturally-specific perinatal mental health resources for families such as educational materials, screening tools, resources lists, and more. A grant from Best Starts for Kids helped us get the Parent Education & Resilience Program (PERC) off the ground and now we need your support to sustain it.
